I Happen to Like New York
(how about you?)

New York City is one of the great places in the whole wide world.
I do end up there, but this particular journey of mine
was to "upstate" -- REALLY upstate!
It all started when I had to go to Buffalo
and decided to make two very important stops along the way.
First overnight: Cooperstown! Yes, I love baseball !
Then it was on to East Aurora, birthplace of
President Millard Fillmore and headquarters of The Roycrofters
(and Vidler's five and dime). Finally, to Buffalo where I had to
visit Niagara Falls -- and take a ride on the famous Maid of the Mist
boat ride right under the falls. Wow !

Did you know that Millard Fillmore was the only American president to live in a house that he built himself? It's true! Of course, Jimmy Carter probably holds the record for most houses built. I helped build one Habitat for Humanity house. You should, too! Learn more here.

Can't you see my heart beating?
Every bear, boy and girl should visit
the Baseball Hall of Fame at least
once.. can you imagine seeing Joe DiMaggio's locker? Babe Ruth's bat?
(Can you tell I am a Yankee fan?!)

I never knew that there was a lake in Cooperstown, but here it is. Did you know that the town was named after James Fenimore Cooper's family? This is where the "Leatherstocking Tales" take place.
Then it was back to New York City,
for a visit to Ellis Island and the Immigration Museum. This is another wonderful place to learn about
and celebrate the great diversity
of the USA.
